Evaluation of Pneumothorax in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

OBJECTIVE: Pneumothorax is one of the most common pulmonary air leak syndromes and appears more often in newborn period than at any other time life. We aimed to determine compare demographic characteristics, clinical courses outcomes newborns with primary secondary pneumothorax this study. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In single-centre retrospective study, maternal neonatal data were collected from medical records Malatya Turgut Ozal University Hospital between January 2020 July 2021. FINDINGS: Twenty nine diagnosed these, 16 male (55.2%) 19 (65.5%) born by cesarean section 6 (20.7%) premature. The mean gestational age was 37.5±2.6 weeks birth weight 3063.4±53 grams. median diagnosis 5 h (1-96) hospital stay 9.55±4.38 days. drainage 4.1±2.13 13 (44.8%) neonates classified as primary, while patients had an underlying disease or predisposing factor. Our study demonstrated a statistically significant difference groups terms Apgar score 5th min SNAP-II scores (p < 0.05). occurance significantly earlier group revealed longer total oxygen, CPAP mechanical ventilation durations RESULTS: Neonatal still associated morbidity mortality favorable pneumothorax.
